PMS stands for Pantone Matching System. This system is a uniform color matching system where you can take a color to any printer – any where – and they will know the exact color you are in need of. The PMS number, such as PMS123, tells the printer or artist the exact values of the color components that make up your design.
If you want a name tag with a logo in color knowing the PMS colors will allow your printer to replicate the colors of your logo accurately. Most name tags are printed using RGB values (Red-Blue-Green). We choose different levels of these 3 colors to produce your full color name badges.
The digital printing process is not an exact process so knowing the PMS values for your colors helps us in developing a color matching plan for your name tags. One of the keys to doing this is in the artwork itself. We must have a VECTOR drawing of the logo. A Vector drawing of your logo allows us to manipulate the colors to achieve the desired print colors. Without a vector drawing of the logo the exact reproduction of your logo colors is very difficult.
So where do you get this magical number? The graphics person who designed your logo, or even the person who commercially prints for you should be able to supply you with the color codes as well as the correct graphic format for our use.
