Name tag layout and design tips

A name tag is an extension of your company identity and brand. The color, shape, font selection and overall design all go into creating an effective name badge.

One of the most critical elements in the design is the choice of type used for the text. The type selection should compliment the type used in the company or organization name. You do not want to use a San Serif type for the name and a Serif Type for the company name. Also you should be aware that text with all capital letters is difficult to read. The letters tend to all run together if you do not have any difference between the characters. The use of Bold, Standard Formatting and Italic typefaces can really affect the looks of your badge. Names tend to be bold with titles being standard and sometime italic. Here at Name-tags when we send your proofs displaying various ways to design your badge so you may choose the one that is most appealing to you.

Order of layout is important as well as logo position. Usually the company name and logo go to the top of the badge and the name on the bottom. Titles go under names. However due to the nature of some logos the logo will go to the left and the names to the right. If you have a logo design on the left we advise breaking your names into two lines for increased visibility. You must take into consideration the longest names you will be using when deciding how you want your badges laid out. You do not want to have to condense a lot of names as this will make the names difficult to read.

Size of the badge is dictated by the amount of copy you are placing on the badge. Logo size, name size, title length all play a factor in deciding your size. Once again if you have longer names and titles you may want to consider one of our wider badges. If you have a larger logo design that you want positioned on the top of the badge you may want a badge with a greater height. We offer various height and width combinations to make sure that your design is easy to read. By producing proofs in various sizes we can help you make the best decision concerning the size of your name tag.

Color is a key element that is sometimes overlooked. Most of the time people tend to stick with the company colors. If you have the option of color there are many to choose from. If you are in a clinical type environment the most common colors are black and white. In an office setting our most popular colors are brushed gold or silver. For those clients with a very colorful logo the basic choice is white. This allows the colors of the logo to show up better and the color of the badge does not overwhelm the logo.

If you have any questions about layout and design just give us a call. It is our job to work with you to layout the perfect name tags to give you and your company a professional image.
